1981 - John Lennon's Double Fantasy LP goes platinum.

1978 – The litigation between Beatles, Apple, Allen Klein and ABKCO is declared settled in court.

1978 – Bluesman Howlin’ Wolf dies in a hospital near Chicago following brain surgery. His biggest hit is the 1951 song “How Many More Years,” which featured Ike Turner.

1971 – The reclusive Bob Dylan appears on the banjo picker Earl Scruggs’ Fanfare Show. The duo performs “East Virginia Blues” and “Nashville Skyline Rag.”

1971 – The trial over Paul McCartney’s move to dissolve the Beatles partnership begins today in London’s High Court. Ringo testifies, “Paul behaved like a spoilt child.”

1965 - Peter Cook and Dudley Moore begin new TV series, Not Only But Also. Guest on his first show - John Lennon!

1969 – George Harrison announces that he is leaving the Beatles. He later returns.

1939 – Scott McKenzie (Philip Blondheim) is born in Jacksonville, Fla. His biggest hit is the 1967 song “San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair),”

1935 – Rockabilly performer Ronnie Hawkins, former employer of the Band, is born in Huntsville, Ark.
